About Willingboro, NJ

Willingboro is a township located in Burlington County, New Jersey. Originally called Wellingborrow for the village of the same name in England, the town’s name developed its current spelling following the Revolutionary War. Following World War II, the residential developers Levitt and Sons purchased and developed the majority of the land in Willingboro under their Levittown planned community model. The community briefly changed its name to Levittown; however, the nearby Levittown, PA caused significant confusion and residents changed the township’s name back to Willingboro. Willingboro was the first Levittown to desegregate.

Frequently Asked Questions about Criminal Defense in Willingboro, NJ

FAQ: What should I do if I think my rights are being violated by the police when they are searching or arresting me?

Most importantly, you should remember never to physically resist a police officer who is trying to conduct a search or arrest — even if the police officer is in the wrong, it is still a crime for you to resist the officer’s efforts. Instead, you should let our criminal defense attorneys challenge the legality of the officer’s search or arrest. If the court rules that the search or arrest was in violation of your rights, it can lead to the suppression of the state’s evidence in your case or even to the dismissal of your charges; however, resisting a search or arrest will mean you are facing another criminal charge that won’t be dismissed by the unlawfulness of the search or arrest.

FAQ: Should I cooperate with the police if the officers promise me leniency in exchange for my cooperation?

You should not decide to answer the police’s questions or cooperate in their investigation until you first speak with an experienced criminal defense attorney. Your attorney can ensure that your rights and interests are being protected if you choose to speak to the police. Your attorney may also be able to secure a more favorable outcome for your criminal charges in exchange for your cooperation with law enforcement.
