About Medford, NJ

Medford is a township located in Burlington County, New Jersey. Medford was incorporated in 1847 from portions of Evesham Township. Present-day Medford was initially settled in the late 1600s ast Upper Evesham. Medford got its present name from a developer who had recently come from Medford, Massachusetts. Early industry in Medford was focused on glassmaking, which continued into the early 20th century. Although the township’s industrial focus ended by the 1920s, the community continued to grow due to its proximity to Camden, NJ and Philadelphia, PA, as families sought to move to a more rural community.

Frequently Asked Questions about Criminal Defense in Medford, NJ

FAQ: Should I have an attorney with me when I speak to the police?

Yes. You have the right to speak to an attorney prior to questioning by the police and to have an attorney present while you answer the police’s questions. An attorney can help you evaluate whether or not you should speak to the police, and if you decide to answer questions, your attorney can also ensure that your rights and interests are being protected. Even if you think you can clear up any issues just by talking to investigators, you need to remember that they are experienced interrogators who question criminal suspects every day and know how to get the information they want from suspects.

FAQ: What happens if my criminal case goes to trial?

If you ultimately decide to go to trial on your criminal charges, your trial will begin with jury selection, in which potential jurors are questioned by the prosecution and your attorney for potential biases or other disqualifications, in order to assemble a fair, impartial jury. The trial itself will begin with opening statements from the prosecutor and your attorney, in which both lay out the evidence they expect to introduce at trial. The prosecution gets to present its evidence first; your attorney will also have the opportunity to cross-examine any witnesses presented by the prosecution. Then you and your attorney will have the chance to present evidence and witnesses; you are not required to testify at your trial, but if you do, the prosecution will have the opportunity to cross-examine you. Finally, the trial concludes with closing statements from the attorneys, after which the jury will deliberate the evidence and reach a verdict.
