About Princeton, NJ
Princeton is a borough located in Mercer County, New Jersey, formed in 2013 from the consolidation of the Borough of Princeton and Princeton Township. Princeton is famous as the home of Princeton University, which bears the community’s name after moving to the area from Newark in 1756. Although predominantly a college town, Princeton is also the location of numerous research institutions and pharmaceutical companies. Princeton is also the site of Drumthwacket, the official residence of the Governor of New Jersey. Princeton had a significant role during the colonial era, including briefly serving as the seat of the Continental Congress in 1783 and as the location of the pivotal Battle of Princeton, in which American troops forced the British to evacuate southern New Jersey.
Frequently Asked Questions about Criminal Defense in Princeton, NJ
If you have been informed or if you believe that law enforcement has a warrant out for your arrest, you should immediately speak with an experienced criminal defense attorney, who can immediately get to work investigating your case and securing the evidence that may be necessary for your legal strategy. Your attorney can also contact law enforcement on your behalf to arrange for your surrender at the police station, so that you don’t have to worry about the shock and embarrassment of being suddenly arrested at your home, your place of work, or elsewhere in public.
In order for the police to lawfully enter your home without your permission, they must either have a search warrant for your home or an arrest warrant that designates your home as the residence of the person to be arrested. Police may also enter your home without a warrant if exigent circumstances exist, typically if the police believe that someone in your home is in immediate danger or if police are in “hot pursuit” of a suspect whom they believe has fled into your home. Otherwise, police need your permission to enter your home; you should speak with a criminal defense attorney before giving police consent to enter your home.
