About Ewing, NJ

Ewing is a township located in Mercer County, New Jersey. Although within the Census Bureau’s New York metropolitan area, Ewing in fact directly borders the Philadelphia metropolitan area. Present-day Ewing was originally part of Hopewell Township. In 1719 it was removed from Hopewell and made part of the newly-created Trenton Township. Ewing was officially incorporated from portions of Trenton in 1834. The community was named as a posthumous honor for Charles Ewing, former Chief Justice of the New Jersey Supreme Court. Originally a farm community, Ewing developed during the 20th century into a suburb for Trenton. Today, Ewing is home to the New Jersey State Police, the headquarters for NJDOT, and The College of New Jersey.

Frequently Asked Questions about Criminal Defense in Ewing, NJ

FAQ: Can I represent myself against my criminal charges?

Although you have a constitutional right to represent yourself in your criminal case, it is always advisable to have the assistance of an experienced criminal defense attorney. A criminal defense lawyer will likely know more about the criminal laws and the criminal justice system than you do. An attorney can also make sure that your rights and interests are protected throughout your case and can develop an effective legal strategy to get you the best possible outcome from your criminal charges.

FAQ: Do I need a private criminal defense attorney, or can I just use a public defender?

Typically, public defenders are reserved for those defendants who cannot afford to hire a private criminal defense attorney. Even if you are eligible to have a public defender appointed to represent you, having a private attorney offers several advantages over a public defender. Although many public defenders are skilled advocates, they often must deal with heavy caseloads. That means a public defender may not be able to devote as much time and resources to your case as a private attorney can. A public defender will provide you with effective legal representation, but a private attorney is more likely to leave no stone unturned in trying to get you the best possible result in your case.
