About Ewing, NJ

Ewing is a township located in Mercer County, New Jersey. Although within the Census Bureau’s New York metropolitan area, Ewing in fact directly borders the Philadelphia metropolitan area. Present-day Ewing was originally part of Hopewell Township. In 1719 it was removed from Hopewell and made part of the newly-created Trenton Township. Ewing was officially incorporated from portions of Trenton in 1834. The community was named as a posthumous honor for Charles Ewing, former Chief Justice of the New Jersey Supreme Court. Originally a farm community, Ewing developed during the 20th century into a suburb for Trenton. Today, Ewing is home to the New Jersey State Police, the headquarters for NJDOT, and The College of New Jersey.
