Cranford Man Arrested for Child Pornography
United States Attorney Craig Carpenito announced recently that a man from Cranford has been arrested and charged with possession of child pornography. The suspect, Joseph Hinksmon, was arrested and charged with possessing images that depicted child sexual abuse. Hinksmon, 41, is a resident of Cranford, New Jersey.
Hinksmon is facing one count of possession of child pornography, according to the criminal complaint, which was filed on Friday, July 26. Hinksmon is scheduled to make his first court appearance in front of United States Magistrate Judge Cathy L. Waldor on Friday, August 2 in Newark federal court.
The Criminal Complaint
The criminal complaint states that Hinksmon’s home was raided by police officers on July 24, 2019. Officers removed multiple computers and other electronic devices that contained more than 1,000 videos and 10,000 images of child pornography. The media discovered included children of prepubescent ages who were being abused sexually.
The Potential Penalty
A charge of possession of child pornography comes with a maximum fine of $250,000 and no more than 20 years in prison, if convicted. The defendant is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law and the accusations outlined in the criminal complaint are just that - accusations.
