Two Jersey City Gang Members Recently Charged for Triple Murder

Three years after the triple murder that occured on Fulton St. in Jersey City, gang members, Markell “Sayboy” Brown and Terence “Sweet Meat” Shaw, have finally been charged. The gang members are being charged with the three murders that took place on January 16, 2017. The attack targeted Ishear Bailey, 26, who was a rival gang member, his girlfriend Janaya Lee, 25 and Quadel Chisolm, 31. Lee was four months pregnant at the time.

Details of the Case

Police say that Shaw and Brown had Chisolm gain access to Bailey’s apartment on Fulton Avenue. Quadel Chisolm was an associate of the two accused killers and was presumably killed to prevent a possible leak to the police. Brown and Shaw first shot Bailey in the back of the head, left shoulder and right arm. Next they shot Chisolm’s pregnant girlfriend, Janaya Lee, in the back of the head and chest. Finally, as they were leaving they killed fellow gang member Quadel Chisolm, authorities say.

The investigation was part of the Jersey City Violent Crime Initiative. It was led by Hudson County Prosecutor's Office, the Jersey City Police Department and special FBI agents.

The Charges

The charges include:

  • Conspiracy to commit murder in aid of racketeering
  • Murder in aid of racketeering
  • Discharging a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence
  • Causing death through use of a firearm.

These are high level charges and require an extremely experienced criminal defense attorney. For planning the murder to help their gang organization Brown and shaw are charged with conspiracy to commit murder in aid of racketeering. Since these are gang related murders, the two accused killers are charged with three counts of attempting to commit murder in aid of racketeering. For shooting and killing three people, Brown and Shaw are charged with three counts of discharging a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence and three counts of causing death through use of a firearm.

To reiterate, these charges are extremely serious, which is why it is essential to have the best criminal defense lawyer in New Jersey. Less than one month after the triple homicide, Brown was arrested on gun charges in other gang related activities. Markell “Sayboy” Brown has also faced charges in 2015 for attempted murder. In further gang related activities Brown was arrested on gun charges less than one month after the triple murder in 2017. There are many charges that come with gang-related activity and it may affect the accused and their families for life. People who are charged with murder in aid of racketeering should only trust a strong and professional criminal defense attorney.
