An all-night art show in Trenton turned deadly when gunfire was exchanged between two local rival gangs leaving one dead and 22 injured at the what was designed to be a family-oriented event. The shots took place around 2:45 a.m. during the Art All Night festival which was started in hopes of bringing awareness to trying to stop violence in the city. Officers arrived to the scene which involved multiple suspects firing weapons and killed one of the gunmen responsible while wounding another gunman who was left in critical condition.
Fights During the Jersey Event Led Police to Shut it Down
While the gunman remains the only fatality at this point 22 people in total were injured with 17 of them being struck by gunfire including a 13-year-old by who was attending the event. Other injuries are thought to have been in connection with several reports of a number of physical altercations that took place both inside and outside of the old Roebling Wireworks building which is where the art show took place. It was due to these physical outbursts that the Trenton Police Department told organizers that they were ordering them to shut down the all night event for safety reasons.
It was at the point where the police started to disperse the people at the festival that a number of individuals refused to leave and instead hung around and started additional fights. It was then that police believe the initial shooting took place and one of the alleged gunman was ultimately killed by the responding officers. Another suspect involved was wounded and left in critical condition following the shoot out. Police believe at least three men opened fire in the art festival that was holding hundreds of people in attendance including families, and when the shooting started everyone ran in multiple directions seeking safety and cover from the multiple gunmen who they believed were shooting at each other.
